4x4 ALLGRIP DRIVE SYSTEM

40 years of experience with the ALLGRIP technology

Suzuki ALLGRIP

Suzuki has developed three different ALLGRIP four-wheel drive systems. Each system is perfectly matched to the Suzuki model. ALLGRIP means the best possible grip in all driving conditions.

  • On slippery or icy surfaces
  • During dynamic driving and detours
  • When climbing a hill
  • Off-road

ALLGRIP AUTO

Swift and Ignis models feature the lightweight and compact ALLGRIP AUTO system. The four-wheel drive is in constant use and works with a viscous clutch. Power is transmitted to the rear axle via viscous silicone oil. If the front axle does not have enough grip, a viscous fluid automatically compensates for the difference in speed between the axles. This optimizes driving stability and increases safety in almost all road conditions.

E-FOUR

Suzuki Across' E-FOUR all-wheel-drive system is an electronically controlled system where the front electric motor controls the distribution of torque between the front and rear axles together with the rear axle, without any mechanical connection between the two axles. Depending on the driving situation, the integrated all-wheel drive system also influences the throttle response, the transmission control, the power steering and the brake distribution.

Auto

In the 'Auto' driving mode, the system focuses on the highest possible fuel efficiency. While engine power is primarily transferred to the front axle, a portion of the power is transferred to the rear axle at the moment of starting and in poor grip conditions.

Sport

Sport mode focuses on dynamic driving on winding roads. The system automatically adjusts the distribution of torque between the front and rear axles. This increases stability when cornering.

Snow

On surfaces with little grip, 'Snow' improves grip and balance. Even slippery or loose surfaces that cause grip problems are no problem in this mode.

Lock

The 50:50 differential lock is activated when 'Lock' is selected. This mode is particularly useful when driving in difficult terrain or when it is necessary to get the vehicle out of difficult conditions such as snow, mud or sand.

ALLGRIP PRO

For more than four decades, Suzuki has been using a successful traction concept that uses the front axle to transform a rear-wheel-drive vehicle into a 4x4. This basic principle of the ALLGRIP PRO technology, first produced in 1970, can be experienced today in a modernized form in the Jimny model.

To make the Jimny 4x4, which under normal conditions should be rear-wheel drive, the front axle is controlled by a second control lever. In this way, the front and rear axles are connected by the transfer case, and at the same time a frictional connection is established between the front wheels and their drive shafts.

Four-wheel drive systems offer additional advantages, especially in off-road conditions. Efficient torque transfer combined with high ground clearance and a short wheelbase give the Jimny superior traction and handling. When Off-Road Boost is engaged, more power is sent to the wheels in all gears to provide sufficient traction on rough and steep terrain.
